weekend recap: anniversary, race day, the ER

That's right. We our BIG weekend finally arrived. It didn't go completely like we had planned, but that's how plans work, rights?

After running around all Friday morning trying to get things together and some coffee bagged, we had everything loaded for the boys trip to Grammy and gramps and ours to Tulsa.

We dropped two very excited boys, and one a little cranky, off and headed to Tulsa. We hadn't taken this road since we travelled that way on the way right after our wedding. We did some reminiscing on our way down, which is always fun. It's always interesting the things you remember well and the things you sometimes forget.

And what did we eat for dinner the night before the big race? Mexican! We love it and eat if so often ythat we figured it was safe enough. Plus we read about a place called El Rio Verde that had wonderful reviews. It definitley didn't disappoint and luckily we were just fine for the race.

I'm planning on sharing more on the actual race itself later, but it was definitely the perfect trail race for me. It's definitely for beginner trail runners, which defines me. In fact, I took two good spills and ended up with some pretty good scrapes and bruises.

We decided on the famous Eskimo Joe's for lunch. Our post race attire, dirty running garb, didn't quite fit in but we didn't let that stop us from enjoying a huge hamburger. The stairs up to our table was a bit of a differnt story. We looked a bit like cripples.

After a short nap, we caught a $4 movie and saw Insurgent. It was the perfect plan after running 15.5 miles. Due to our late lunch, we decided on popcorn and ice cream for dinner. You can do that after running a race. And let me tell you, it is going down in the books as the best ice cream I have ever had. It was actually Gelato, and we will definitely be going back.

Then it happened. We got the dreaded middle of the night call. Mom was letting me know that Ivan was having a lot of trouble staying asleep ( very uncommon for him) and seemed to be wheezing. While on the phone with her, my Dad was able to get him asleep, so we left it at her keeping a close eye on him and let us know if anything changed.

She called back at 4:30 and let me listen to him. He was definitley straining. The good news was that my Dad was there and said that his lungs sounded clear, but we decided to go ahead and take him to the ER.

They loaded him up and headed to freeman, and we packed up and headed to there too. We thought it might have been an allergy or asthma.

Turns out it is Croup. With babies that young, they have a lot of trouble clearing the crud and everything settles in their throat. They gave him a steroid for inflammation and to help open his throat. Luckily that's all he needed. He quickly improved while we were there and is much better today.

Several of the same nurses were there that helped Ivan during our first ER visit. They stopped in and said hello and how happy they were to see that he was doing so well. They told us how scary that night had been for them too. It was a great reminder of what the Lord has done for us.

It's still crazy how quickly it all came on. Jason's been dealing with what we thought were just allergies but now it seems like it might have been a virus. I think everyone in our house is on the mend now. (We think Silas may have it too) We're praying that Amos and I stay healthy.
