That's right, on Saturday, we celebrate our 6th anniversary. How you might ask? By running a race together. Or we hope so. Jason thought he was young and spry and wrestled with his brother this weekend. He only thought he won, until he stood up and realized he had done something terrible to his neck. Since he has been icing and doing the whole body turn. It's getting better, so hopefully, he'll be ready by Saturday. My parents are watching the boys for two nights and we are getting away. We've been pretty faithful to do this the last 6 years. In fact, I don't think we've missed a year yet. We both really look forward to the undivided time together. Life can be so busy and distracting, that we need a re-focus time.
I learned a little more about the man I married each year and he learns a little bit more about me. I'm the opposite of an open book. He's learning to draw me out. He's slow. I mean it. About everything. I'm learning the slow can be good. You can experience more that way.
Two of the things that have made this year better than last year are Monday night tea and praying together one morning a week.
We aren't fighters. We are both fairly easy going. Without conflict, it can seem like everything is fine. But in reality, it's really easy for us to get into a rut of just living without really engaging each other. Without even knowing it, we could go quite a while without having a real, true conversation. Just a bunch of "how was the day," "kid stuff", and "plans".
That's where Monday night tea has come in. We've tried to be really faithful in setting aside time Monday nights, after putting the boys down, to just sit, and slowly sip our tea while asking questions and talking. It's good for both of us. It's a nice and slow pace, and Jason can draw me out. It's real contact. Knowing and being known.
Praying together was born out out of the desire for something different for Jason's work. He felt stuck and we realized that we hadn't really asked the Lord. So we started. Once a week, in place of our normal individual prayer time, we praised the Lord together, confessed together, and asked together. We can see a fuller picture of each other and Lord when we come together in prayer.
This sixth year of marriage has been a good one. I can't imagine living life with anyone else. I look forward to knowing you better.
