our little pumpkin turned ONE

I love birthdays.  Birthdays were a big deal growing up, and not even just my own!  I loved when my siblings had birthdays because we would have fun celebrating them.  We're following the same tradition in our family.

That being said, we had a blast at Silas' first birthday.  Jason casually threw out the idea of a pumpkin themed birthday a while back and I jumped on it.  I thought it was a perfect way to celebrate this guys first birthday.  He made a pretty cute pumpkin.
The weather was perfect.  I'd been a little worried about it at the beginning of the week, but it turned out sunny and warm.  We served soup to warm everyone up.

But the highlight was the pumpkin painting.  We have some little artists with us.

Silas checking everything out with Nana.

The other little pumpkin walking around.

The pictures below explain how Silas' smash cake went over.  It was pretty similar to Amos' experience with his.  We started like this.

And ended like this.  I think he didn't like having the icing all over his fingers.  He kept trying to get it off and refused to eat any of the cake.
MaKenna was ok with eating the cake though.
Luckily we had cupcakes and carmel apples for everyone else.

silas john - one year old

Here it is!  Somehow we went from this:

to this:
And it seems like it happened that fast too!

We had a great week leading up to this guy's birthday.  We consider cold weather, nice weather, so we were outside everyday.

Silas is getting more and more verbal.  He's still at the phase where I'm the only one who understands what he's trying to "say," but it's beginning to make things easier!  He signals all-done. And has started pointing where he wants to go.  He's also very verbal about what he doesn't want - he's got the whine down.

He's putting more steps together, but doesn't seem very interested in walking.  He'll get there in his own sweet time, I guess.

I'm been trying to get the boys ready for fall back (I hate TIME CHANGE).  It's pretty much just thrown us off.  I thought making the change in small increments instead of one big hour jump would be easier.  I'm not sure I was right!  Well see what this weekend brings.

We finally made it to a pumpkin patch!  The Corcoran Girls joined us.  We were surprised to have the place pretty much to ourselves.  But that didn't stop Amos and MaKenna from enjoying it all.

The played in the corn pit (a favorite).

Amos liked being buried in the corn.  Can't you tell?
We went through the small hay maze.  Here he comes.
They rode the horses.  I didn't get a good shot of MaKenna, but she was talking about the horseys the whole time!  She rides horses with her grandparents so it was no big deal!  Amos didn't want to ride the horses at first, but as long as MaKenna was riding the horses, he was going to too!
These three caught up on each other's lives while waiting for us.
Next came the train ride!

We bounced in the bounce house and Amos went down the slide with Dad!

We finished the week off with this little pumpkin's PUMPKIN BIRTHDAY!  More on that later!
Here's the Moose on his birthday!

silas john - week 51

We started the week off strong! Even though we were inside most of the day on Monday, we kept ourselves entertained by getting caught up from the weekend.

The rain didn't cancel our Tuesday's plans as we were going to a Parents As Teachers Fire Safety event.  Because it was wet, Silas was content hanging out in the stroller, and Amos thoroughly enjoyed himself.
Amos is sure to point out every fire truck we see now. The firemen were great and one even answered all of Amos' "What's that?" questions.

Silas' "birthday" present came in the mail on Wednesday.  I've been wanting to get the boys a nativity that's pretty and that they can play with.  This one fit the bill.  It was a little pricey, so we're splitting it with Silas' birthday and their Christmas.  They like it already it.

They also liked the box.

Thankfully, we were able to get outside near the end of the week.  Jason had parent teacher conferences both Wednesday and Thursday night.  It made for a some long days.

But we had the weekend to look forward to.  We left a sick Amos and a happy Silas was Nana and Papa Friday evening, and headed down to Branson for our weekend away/Jason' 25K trail run.  Amos' sickness passed quickly, but Silas woke up Sunday morning with a fever too.  He would get sick the week of his birthday.  Doesn't that seem to always happen?  We're hoping it will be just as short lived as Amos'.

We had a great time in Branson.  Without the boys, we were able to have a late night coffee date.  The we spent half of Saturday at Silver Dollar City and the other half at the outlet mall, followed by dinner at The Keeter Center.  Sunday we got up bright and early for Jason's trail race.
They took off at 8 am.  Jason didn't know when he would finish but was shooting for the average time of the past years race, around 3 1/2 hours.
Luckily, I was at the finish line in advance, because he came in at 3:05.  WOW!  And with a smile on his face!

He said he's ready to do it next year!

And here's Amos at the same age:  they've got the same hair!
