I've observed Lent for the last three years. It was born out of my desire to anticipate Easter. Before that, Easter always snuck up on me. My heart wasn't ready to mourn my Saviors death or celebrate his ressurection. Then I came across this Journey To the Cross study. And every year since, I have anticipated the start of Lent. The study is rich in truth and challenges not to just give something up, but to make room for something else. Christ.
Unlike the past years, what I'm fasting from isn't very tangible. Rather, I'm trying to free up space that has been constantly filled by making my plans, fulfilling my plans, and defining myself by those things. Control. And learn to re-fill it with him. Prayer. Meditation. Being, rather than doing. People over progrom. Rest. The Word.
I haven't been 100% successful. I planned an IKEA trip for crying out loud. But, despite my failings. He has been faithful. And this time has been so good. Our house has been a lot slower. And I think everyone appreciates that. We are remembering what are Savior did, and anticipating what's to come.
The temptation comes quickly to plan, plan, plan. Fill, fill, fill. Do, do, do. But slowly and surely a new pattern is forming of stopping and being. He's there waiting. In his presence is the fullness of joy.
