Silas John - Week 17

We had lots of smiles and giggles this week.  I learned this week, that Silas is ticklish.  He'll laugh if I tickle under his chin or armpits or toes.  He hasn't full out belly laughed, but its more of a giggle he can't control.  I think it surprises him we he hears himself.  It takes nothing to get him to smile, but singing does it every time.
Nursing has been a little frustrating for both of us this week.  I'm not sure what the problem has been, but I think its just him getting distracted and forgetting to eat, which in turn, upsets him because he is no longer eating.  We no longer have fast nursing sessions.  I've been having to coax him along all week.  Singing helps with this.  But I keep hoping its just a phase that we will soon be moving out of.

Still no luck with the bottle.  But that hasn't stopped us yet from getting away.  Friday night my parents came and got Amos for the weekend and we had friends watch Silas so Jason and I could go out!  I just fed him a little early and hoped for the best!  And it all worked out.

Silas has been waking up in the morning and just talking to himself.  Its so nice not to come in to a crying baby in the mornings now, but one that is smiling and talking to me.  I peak over the crib and when he sees me, his face lights up! Aww!  We are finally moving on out of newborn.

I've been putting him in his pack-and-play for some naps just so he can get used to that.  Amos was always so good about sleeping anywhere and I hope Silas is the same way.  He doesn't seem to mind too much at this point.  He seems to still cry out about 45 minutes into his nap, but then put himself back to sleep.  I think sleeping on his stomach helps with this, but I still hope that 45 minute intruder will soon be behind us.

The snow meant Dad was home with us at the end of the week.  It was nice to spend extra time playing with him.  We had 3 Saturdays in a row.

A few new things this week:
He's not rolling, but he seems much more interested in rolling from his back onto his tummy!  Maybe this means we won't have the rolling over problems like we did with Amos.  Only time will tell.

He's also practicing sitting in the middle of the boppy!  I love the boppy for this because he doesn't have very far to fall when his ab muscles give out.  It's also easy for him to prop his arms on as you can see below! Look at that square little face.
Lastly, Silas went to the church nursery for the first time this week.  I knew it was time when he didn't sleep through church last week.  I figured if he wasn't going to sleep, he might as well enjoy the nursery.  They said he did great.  He ended up staying up quite a bit longer than usual, but took a short nap when we got home. And I must admit, it was nice to be able to fully engage in the service instead of trying to keep a baby sleeping.

Here's Amos at the same age:
And here's a little comparison.  They're brothers, but definitely not twins.
