silas john - week 45

What a fun week!  It's taken us four weeks, but I think we're finally getting use to the rhythms of a new school year.  (or it could be the fact that this was a four day week)  It's always fun to start the work week at home with family.  Silas had fun with family too.  He made up for missing his morning nap by taking a 4 hour afternoon one.  Now that's a nap.

 Silas took his first dive off the couch last Sunday.  It was completely my fault.  With all the kids, I sat him up there and then got distracted.  He was ready to get down. And he did.  Luckily, it just scared him and Mom pretty good.

We enjoyed the cool mornings by getting outside for awhile.  I trapped Silas in the pool, but he didn't seem to mind as long as he had a ball in his hand and could keep an eye on Amos.

I am ready for cool weather all the time.  Who am I kidding?  I've been ready for cool weather since it started getting warm!

 This guy is moving and getting into everything.  Getting into everything means we have to start saying, "No."  Amos loves when we have to tell Silas no.  He smiles and asks, "What did Silas do?"  Silas loves it too.  If you want to make Silas laugh, putting on an angry face and tell him, "No."  It cracks him up.  Belly laughs.  We've got our work cut out for us.

In our of cousin Priscilla's1st Birthday, we wore our dinosaur shirts.  I asked Amos to put his arm around Silas and he gave him a hug!  How sweet!  The he knocked him down.

Amos loved his last video.  He asked to watch it every morning in August.  He was so ready to do this video.  It cracks me up that he memorized his last month video and was just waiting to answer the same.  He's a character.

laboring on labor day

We had a FULL three day weekend.  We started off with the lake on Saturday and then Jason's family came for a visit Sunday and Monday.  Their visit involved more than just hanging out and having fun, although we did lots of that too!

We had a big tree in our front yard that was practically dead.  I think its been slowly dying since the storms that accompanied the tornado.  A large limb finally broke off and we got a notice in the mail that we needed to cut the tree down or the city would and would charge us for it.  After asking around, we found out that it would cost $1000+ to have it cut down.  Needless to say, that's not do-able for us.  So Papa brought the big chainsaw and Uncle Jeffrey brought his truck.  This is after the first limb fell.

We were all outside watching for a little while, but then things got a little tricky for the guys.  They spent some time contemplating how to get the limb down that was leaning toward the house.  Luckily there was only one of those.  The kids watched from inside.

We had a lot of fun inside.  The kids are getting good at playing together.  Teigan didn't seem to mind that Amos is 3 years younger than him.  He just treated him like he was another pal.

And Emma was smitten with Silas.  She would pat him and give him kisses and make him laugh.  He was loving all the attention.

 Teigan was a good helper too! He just knew that Silas wanted him to hold him.

The guys got it all cut down the first night and finally took a break for dinner.  We had a good evening eating and laughing together.

After breakfast was finished, they men got back to it.

With the cooler weather, we headed outside with the kids while the men worked in the front yard.

 Emma taught Amos how to swing on his stomach.

Papa didn't take a break until it was all cut.  We celebrated with a big lunch!  We are so thankful for wonderful family that never hesitates to help out.  What a blessing for the Lord.

silas john - week 44

We're currently a one car family, so most of this week was spent at home hanging out with each other.  The heat keeps me inside (yes, I'm a pansy) so we all got a little stir crazy.

On top of that, Silas started with a small cold, Amos got it, I got it, and now Jason suffers from it.  Luckily, its been really mild.  Even in mild form, I think it affected Silas' naps.  Here he is not sleeping during another nap.  I'm hoping this week will be full of GOOD naps.

If you've hung out with us in the last couple of weeks, you will have heard Silas' new scream.  It comes out most when he's ready for food.  It's rather shrill and scares other babies.  Yeah, we're hoping its a phase.

 He's figuring out the whole spoon thing.  And by figuring it out, I mean he can now chew on the end.

He's becoming quite the little boy.  He'll trail Amos and me around the house all day long.  

 And now he's a lot faster after figuring out how to crawl on his hands and knees.

We ended our stir-crazies by breaking out of the house and going to the lake this weekend.  We all love spending time at the lake.  Jason mentioned how fun it would be to "live the lake life."  I totally agree.  Amos loves the water, and Silas loves all the attention he gets with lots of family around.
