silas john - week 30 & the lake

We’ve reached the wonderful stage of predictability.  His naps, his night, his eating, and his mood are all predictable.  Baby phase is downhill from here.

He’s broadening his food horizons.  He’s now snacking on watermelon, avocado and pumpkin.

His current favorite game is rolling the ball.  He just cracks up when I roll it toward him and does a pretty good job of “catching” it.
He’s very, very content.  I don’t know if this is a second child thing, but he’s could sit and just watch the rest of us for hours.

Silas sleeps on his belly, so I don’t put him down on his stomach to play much.  The other day, when I did, he surprised me by going up on all fours.  Crawling may not be too far off.  Amos continues to demonstrate for him.

Jason and I started our summer off right, by shipping the kiddos off to Grammy and Gramps' house! Now that Silas takes a sippy, he was ready for an extended stay at the grandparents’ house.  Other than waking up early, everything went smoothly.

We took advantage of the time by leisurely dining out and taking a trip to Silver Dollar City.  It was reminiscent of our trip to Mexico last year!

On Saturday, I was anxious to get down to the lake and meet up with my boys.  They were all smiles.  Silas hadn’t forgotten me and Amos wasn’t mad like the last time we left him overnight.

We had a blast at the lake.

Race Weekend

So, I don't think I've mentioned it, but I've been training for a half marathon since March.  My long-term goal has been to run a 1/2 between each baby I have and when I'm finished having babies, run a full marathon (which, at the moment, seems crazy).  I need some time to forget how hard the 1/2 was.

This was my third 1/2 marathon to run and my third to run with my dad.  I say it every time, but I don't think I would have finished without him.

The only thing that kept me running the last mile was knowing that I would see these sweet faces waiting for me. (Jason and Silas were there too!)

Oh, and the memory of how sweet it feels to sit and drank a cold gatorade after a long run!

silas john - week 29

Silas has learned the "pick up and put put in your mouth" of food.  The "release" is still a little iffy.

Head banging was the sport of the week.  I think we can thank Amos for teaching Silas how to do that.

Silas' smile goes from 0-60 and back again.  But it sure is a big one.

We had a couple of scares this week as Amos decided to tip Silas over in his exesaucer and later tried to help Silas bang his head on the wall.  Luckily the first one just shocked us all and the second one was thwarted thanks to my quick actions.  We're looking forward to Silas getting a little tougher and being able to fight back.

Dissolving puffs are now on the menu.  Next up the hard stuff - cheerios.

Silas never took to a pacifier and hasn't caught on to the whole thumbsucking thing either.  This week a threw a "lovey" in his crib with him to see if he'd attach himself to that.  So far it doesn't seem to help him fall asleep, but rather entertain him.  Oh well.

He's ended his week with a nasty cough.  He's got a bit of a runny nose and watery eyes going with it.  We're hoping its nothing more than the last cold of the season.

silas john - week 28

Silas decided he liked food this week.  We're experimenting with finger foods, but its mainly purees.  He really likes a spinach banana mix.

Amos was teaching Silas how to crawl.  Or maybe do a push-up.  Who knows?
He's lucky to have a BIG brother who knows how to do these things.

Amos wasn't too excited about Silas using his xylophone.
To be honest, Silas wasn't all too interested in it, so it worked out OK.

Silas is at that lovely age of being perfectly content sitting on the floor surrounded by toys.  He'll bend in half to try to reach a toy, but he doesn't get frustrated by things out of his reach (yet)!

Is this guy cute?  And in case you missed it in the first picture.  Check out these thighs.
 Serious pose.

We had a pretty uneventful week.  Lots of good, long naps.  A couple of early mornings.  And a possible tooth hole?  No tooth, but a spot for it.

silas john - week 27

Wonder week crank-i-ness is behind us.  Silas took wonderful naps and has made the move to the four hour schedule.  That means only 4 feedings in a day.  That's nothing!

Silas is somewhat taking a sippy for a feeding.  It's not perfect, but it has allowed me to get away during a feeding a few times this week.

The guy is almost always happy.  He now plays in his crib when he wakes from naps and is content most anywhere.

His sitting skills continue to improve.  He'll fold himself in half in pursuit of a toy.  Too bad for him he's got a brother who snatches his toys from him for fun.

There's all kinds of crib rolling going on.  Rolling onto his back is no longer a problem.

For the longest time, Amos hated to be thrown into the air.  Silas loves it.  Go figure!

He's figuring out the spoon and food thing.  He still acts like he could take it or leave it, but I try to offer it a couple times each day.  Bananas are still the favorite.

I get a "D" for picture taking this week.  But the ones I did take are sure cute.

amos jack - 22 months

I haven’t talked about this in a while, but I can’t believe how big my baby is.  I’m not going to be able to call him that much longer.  There’s not much baby left.  It’s sad, but it’s wonderful. It’s fun, but it’s hard.  I guess that’s just life for you.

EATING:
Amos’ new thing is to gag himself to the point of throwing up a couple of times if he doesn’t like the taste of something.  At first we thought he was sick because he did twice in one day.  We quickly realized that he was intentionally doing and are trying to put a fast stop to it.

He’s also been eating something else lately.

PLAYING:
Pretend play is where it’s at this month.  The pig eats the food.  The baby gets a bottle.  The monkey needs to hang on his bed.  Come to find out, kids pretend play what they know.  Makes sense.  I’ve been trying to model some new play ideas and then letting him take the lead.  Amos had an older friend over this week and I think they were in their room “pretend playing” together.  What fun!

Speaking of his room, it’s a happening spot.  Everyone is invited into his room, except for Mom when he’s got a friend over.  He needs his privacy.

With his new bed, he’s climbing, hanging and jumping a lot more.  And he’s getting more daring.  High chairs can be scaled, trees should be climbed and the fridge is a ladder.  Jumping has really taken off this month too.  He’ll jump and then invite us to jump.  He’s getting ready for jumping into the pool soon.

He’s all boy.  Rocks, dirt, and sand are to be played with and tasted.  At my grandpa’s birthday, Amos was caught giving his cousin Josie a taste. Yum!

DISCPLINE:
“I’m sorry” is now part of Amos’ vocabulary.  He may not always know what it means, but he’s getting good practice using it.  I must use it a lot when I bump into him, because now when we bump, he says it.

“Okay” and “all done” are other frequent expressions. When he throws a fit, we tell him he needs to be “all done” or he’ll go to his room.  On the way to his room, he tries to throw an “all done” or “okay” in there to get out of the consequence. Like I’ve said before, he’s ornery.  I’m glad that using his room as a time out area has not dampened his love to play in it.

PERSONALITY:
So we’ve got a little bossier on our hands.  I have no idea who he gets this from (wink, wink).  He’ll form 3 or 4 step plans and then make sure they happen.  For example: “I want to go outside and play with the ball.” 1) Get someone to put my shoes on me. 2) Find a ball. 3) Sneak out while the door is open. 4) If they catch me, just stand by the door and throw the ball out so eventually they’ll give up and take me out there.  True story.

SLEEPING:
Same old, same old here.  It’s so nice how consistent Amos’ sleep is, especially with Silas, crazy cat changing on us all the time.

No problems with the big boy bed.  He now has more room for stuffed animals and blankets.  Most of the time I can't see him under all of his animals.

LEARNING:
This month Amos has been learning how to do some “chores.”  We practice making his bed (pulling up the blanket and lining up his stuffed animal), putting his clothes in the laundry basket, picking up toys and wiping up spills.  He thinks it’s a ton of fun.

Other things we’ve worked on is counting, ABCs, patterns, and colors.  No great progress, but we have fun while doing it.  Who knows how much that little head of his is soaking up?

COMMUNICATION:
Friends’ names are part of his everyday vocabulary.  The other morning at the table he listed off all the friends that we were going to see that day.  If he’s drinking milk, then Josie is drinking milk, Ace is drinking milk and Scout is drinking milk.  Inanimate objects are thrown in now and again too.  His 2 and 3 word sentences are taking off.  Another reason why he’s so big:  babies don’t talk, and this guy does.

LITTLE BROTHER:
Silas is becoming more of a companion for Amos rather than a toy.  Amos wants Silas to do everything with him.  And now they can do things together: baths, eating, drinking, reading books.

challenge complete.

So I completed my self-imposed challenged of "getting dressed" every day in April!  It ended up being quite fun.  I forgot to take some pictures last week, but here are some of the outfits.  I still feel like I have a lot more outfits I can make, which is exciting.

And, just because the challenge is over, my "getting dressed" is not.  I may stay comfy some days, but I'll make getting dressed a priority!
