Silas John - Week 12

Well, this post is coming in a little late.  Somebody has been sick all week!  It's no fun to hear a 2 1/2 month old coughing.  And we're not talking about a small cough every now and again.  It's a full out rough cough and it happens a lot.  Less when he sleeps, which is nice.  He started the week with mild congestion and by Saturday refused to eat or be consoled.  Luckily, he still slept Saturday night.  Sunday night was a different story!

Speaking of sleep, even in the midst of all the sickness, Silas was officially sleeping through the night - 9+ hours.  However, last night that was not the case.  I'm hoping its only due to sickness.

We're still working the swaddle.  If he's not ready to drop it soon, we'll have to get a bigger size.  I'd rather be done with it.

Up until Saturday, you wouldn't have known Silas was sick.  He was still very happy during his wake time and sleeping very well.  He's got a pretty laid back disposition.  This week we had all kinds of smiles and Silas started noticing his own hands.

His face has cleared up all together.  I'm now only have to put cream on his face every other day or so and that's only a preventative measure!  He's got a nice bald ring around his head.  Lucky for him, his thick top hair is long enough to cover most of his baldness.  He remains our hairy little man.

No luck on the bottle front, so instead, Silas got to attend his first wedding.  Amos stayed home with Grandma, Grandpa and Granny, while Silas and I headed to Miami, OK for the marriage of Jon and Rachel Reed!  It was beautiful and he slept through almost the entire thing, reception included.

At the beginning of the week, Silas cut his eating time in half.  All of the sudden he no longer wanted to eat on both sides or for very long.  Now that I know he was getting sick, I wonder if he will go back to his longer eatings, or if he just got more efficient at eating and no longer needs to eat as long.  The shorter eating sessions have been nice.  It leaves more wake time for play!

We saw the doctor this morning.  It sure leaves peace of mind knowing that the cough isn't moving into his chest.  The doctor said to use saline drops every hour and use his eye medicine twice a day.  Also, keep him in an upright position.  He also prescribed an antibiotic incase he continues to get worse.  (He even wrote me a prescription because I think Silas gave his stuff to me) I love our doctor and nurses!

Silas John - Week 11

And a new look to the blog.  No special reason.  I was just getting a little tired of the old look.

This past week started off with a bang!  Silas decided he needed to eat every 2 hours during the day and a shorter stretch at night.  Can you say GROWTH SPURT?  It was really frustrating me for two reasons.  The first was that it was my birthday week, and I kind of thought it would be nice of him to sleep longer for my birthday.  He decided just to be cute instead.

And secondly, this is the week Amos started sleeping 10 hours at night.  And he never stopped.  My mom reminded me that Silas is chubbier than Amos and may just need a little more food.  Here's to hoping the magic starts this week!

Jason was taking me out on Friday for my birthday so we tried all week to get Silas to take a bottle.  We had VERY little success.  I've now tried 4 different bottles.  Any suggestions?  I'm just going to continue to try once a day in hopes that he finally get it by Saturday because we have a out of town wedding to attend.

At Silas' Dr. appointment, we were told to try hydrocortisone on his cheeks.  It has been amazing.  And his cheeks are finally starting to clear up.  He's put on lots of pounds (5 of them) since birth so no problems with breast-feeding and he's in size 2 diapers now.  We're starting cloth very soon!

We're still swaddling for sleep, but he's getting really close to busting out so we may be ending that soon.  And to be honest, I look forward to it.  I know it helps so much with sleep now, but its pretty annoying to have to swaddle for every nap and night.  He's getting more accurate at hitting his toys in his bouncer and activity gym.  I hope that's a sign that he'll be ready for no swaddle soon!

Speaking of his toys, he loves to play with them.  He's so content anywhere, but he really likes to talk to toys that are hanging within his eye sight.

Amos also likes to play with his toys.  Silas just smiles and smiles at Amos.  He loves his big brother.

He looks at everything these days.  My mom says he's more social that Amos was.  I agree.  I'm getting pretty spoiled with all his smiles.

Double Ouchy...

We had both boys monthly check-ups today. This was Amos' 18 month check-up with shots, and Silas' 2 month check-up with shots.  I made Jason take off work to help.  They both did surprisingly well.  I'd been dreading Amos' because I knew he was old enough to be mad at us after they happened.  However, we were smart and brought cheese along with us.  Right after the nurse finished with the shots, we gave him the cheese and he was a happy camper.

And Silas barely cried.  We were expecting the newborn wails, but, thankfully, they never came.  He promptly went back to sleep and slept through most of our trip to Wal-mart.  

Both boys had grown.

Amos is now a whopping 33 1/4 inches tall - 75th percentile - and weighs 26.8 lbs - 60th percentile.

Silas is 24 1/4 inches tall - 90th percentile - and weights 13 lbs - 75th percentile.  He's bigger than Amos was at this age, but not much.  Amos has always been long and lean, but all muscle.  Silas is stocky with a little more chub.

I'm glad were done with shots for Amos until he's 5 years old.  That's seems a long ways off.  (Don't tell me it will be here before I know it.)

6 Months

Weight: 15 lbs, 10 oz

Height: 26 3/4 inches

Head: 18 3/8 inches

He's still long and skinny, skinny with a big head!

Doctor said he looks perfect!  I couldn't agree more!

Long and Skinny...

Well, we just got back from Amos’ 4 month check up and found out that he is long and skinny!  He weighed in at 14.2 pounds.  Like last check-up he’s right at the 50^th percentile.  Doctor said that he’s growing at about the same rate!  However, our surprise was his length.  He was 25 ¾ inches long, placing him in the 90^th percentile!  And he’s still got a big head!

He did such a good job.  He just laid on the bed and smiled up at the nurses while they were giving him the once over.  They kept saying what a content baby he was!  The shots were no fun, but he seemed to recover quickly in Dad’s arms.

Doctor gave us a clean bill of health and sent us home!
